Building An Effective Assessment Process

Assessing potential church planters is a critical step in any church planting effort.  It can seem complex, even mysterious, but it doesn’t need to be.  This simple 5 step process can guide you from the first contact through the final assessment.

  1. Gather a Crowd
It may not seem very spiritual, but the more potential planters you talk to the more gifted and able planters you will find.  Start here and the whole process will go much better.
  2. Look for Potential
This is the purpose of the Initial Screening Assessment developed by ELI.  It is a quick, easy to use tool to discover church planting potential.  We recommend you use it early and often.
  3. Build a Profile
When you find leaders with potential you want to build a profile.  This profile provides relevant data about their ability, gifting and personality that informs the rest of the assessment process.
  4. Check for Fit
The kingdom of God is a diverse combination theology, ideology and methodology.  Just because a leader is gifted to plant a church doesn’t mean they are a good fit for your organization.
  5. Assess them Rigorously
A rigorous assessment is resource intensive activity.  It will be most effective if used as the culmination of an effective process as described here.

These 5 steps will help you build an assessment process that is both simple to maintain and effective in identifying gifted church planting leaders.
