TEXT

The ELI Initial Screening Assessment consists of 85 questions designed to evaluate:

  • Church Planting Experience – Have they effectively started and led new ministry initiatives?
  • Entrepreneurial Leadership – Do they prefer leading new and innovative activities?
  • Ministry Experience – Have they effectively led ministry initiatives?
  • Relational Evangelism – Are they actively involved in leading others to faith?

The scores are reported as percentages, based on a potential of 100%, but should not be compared to a typical academic scale. Instead, we provide a benchmark, a median, and a green/yellow/red indicator.

The Benchmarks

  • Green = above 75%  This is the benchmark established by comparing to highly effective church planters and indicative of strong potential.
  • Yellow = between 50 – 75%  This is below the benchmark, but may simply be an indication where further development or training is needed, especially if only one or two categories are indicated.
  • Red = below 50%  This indicates areas that should be fully reviewed and are likely the result of lack of experience or a skill set not typical of effective planters.

The Medians

The median is the middle score of everyone who has taken the ISA and provides an added layer of comparison.  For example a 75% in Entrepreneurial Leadership is above the benchmark but comparable to half of all ISA’s while a 65% on Relational Evangelism is below the benchmark but well above the median.

“What is a good score for the ISA?”

The bottom line question most of you want answered is “what is a good score for the ISA.  We recommend the following next steps:

  • Anyone scoring Green in all categories is a potential church planter who should continue in the assessment process.
  • Anyone scoring Green or Yellow in all categories should complete a full Church Planter Profile to further assess their aptitude and readiness.
  • Anyone scoring Red in any category should consider improving their readiness in that area prior to further pursuit of church planting.

Understanding how to read and understand the benchmarks and medians will allow you to provide consistent and helpful feedback to those who complete the ISA.
