Church Planter Profiles provides an abundance of information about potential church planters.  Knowing how to quickly read and understand each of the reports will help you get the most out of Church Planter Profiles and effectively assess potential church planters.  These tips will help you get the most out of the Golden Personality Profiles.

Background:

The Golden Personality Type Profile is built on the theory of personality type developed by Carl Jung in the 1920.  This is the same typology used in the more familiar Myers-Briggs assessment.  The Golden report, however, brings added depth by providing scores on each of the 4 scales as well as 4 subscales for each.  The 4 scales are:

Where you focus your energy?

  1. Extraverting: energy directed externally toward people and things.
  2. Introverting: energy directed inward toward thoughts and ideas.

How you gather information?

  1. Sensing: process information in an exact, detailed and literal manner.
  2. Intuiting: process information in a symbolic and global fashion.

How you make decisions?

  1. Thinking: make decision based on logic and rationality.
  2. Feeling: make value-based decisions based on empathy or compassion

How you approach life?

  1. Organizing: planned, organized and orderly approach.
  2. Adapting: open-ended, flexible, and emergent approach.

Reading the Report:

The Golden report contains 16 pages of valuable detailed information. Below is a quick guide which will help you process the report quickly and effectively.

  • Cover - identifies the potential planter and the date taken.
  • Introduction - includes basic information in background above.
  • Page 3 - a concise one-page description of the person.
  • Pages 4-5 - the scores on each of the 4 primary scales.
  • Page 6 - a summary of all 16 types with the persons type highlighted.
  • Pages 7-10 - more detailed descriptions of strengths, weaknesses and style.
  • Pages 12-14 - the scores on the 16 subscales.
  • Page 15 - the report provides insight into how the person handles stress.
  • Page 16 - a one page summary of all scores is provided.

The descriptions on page 3 and 7-10 are most helpful as you begin to learn the differences of each style.  These are also the pages most helpful for potential planters to gain a deeper self-understanding.  As you become more familiar with the Golden, you will find you can go straight to page 16 and review all of the information in this single page snapshot

Understanding the Results:

Our statistics reveal that almost 80% of all potential planters are extraverted and intuitive. This is significant since less than 50% of the population are one of these types.  Our research also indicates that EN’s have a higher rate of effectiveness as planters.  Metaphorical, the Golden is like observing the height of basketball players – people over 7 feet tall are likely to excel.  Keep in mind, height alone isn’t a guarantee, just a valuable indicator.
